1970-71 Virginia Squires ABA Worn Warm-Up Jacket

Inside the rear collar is the “Sand-Knit” manufacturer’s tag with size “48”. On the left breast is a large “Squire” patch done in red, white and blue chain stitch that is absolutely gorgeous. On back is “VIRGINIA” done in blue tackle twill with a red embroidered border. The jacket shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Extremely rare style and fantastic.

Notes: The Virginia Squires were an American Basketball Association team from 1970 through 1976. The franchise had previously been the Oakland Oaks (1967-69) and the Washington Caps (1969-70). During the 1972-73 season, the Virginia Squires had both Julius Erving and a young George Gervin, but the duo only played together late in the season. The Squires lost to their division rival Kentucky in the first round of the playoffs. During the summer of 1973, Dr. J was sold to the New York Nets for cash and Gervin was sold to the Spurs.
